If you've tried all the usual ways of learning a language, try this. You listen (in as relaxed a way as possible) to essential information about how the language works (what are nouns, why are some words masculine and others feminine, how adjectives are affected by whether a noun is masculine, feminine, singular or plural). It's stuff you've probably been drip fed at school or at evening classes.

The first thing to overcome is your 'no can learn a foreign language' mindset. Language is simply how people communicate. You just need to be able to decode the rules. If your own language is English, you probably don't stop to think about the rules, you just speak it. But if you want to speak French, Spanish, Italian or Portuguese (or any other language), you're going to have to take a closer look at all the elements that make up a language and see how they fit together.

Then throw in a dollop of confidence and the world's your oyster!
