Colour coding roads

In Italy motorway signs are green, main roads are blue and local destinations are in white.
Uscita means exit (and equivalent to junction on UK motorways).
A8 means Autostrada 8 (like M8 in UK).
E33 means European Route 33
SS means Strada Statale (equivalent to A road in UK).
The bullseye sign next to Settimo M. means centro, ie the centre of Settimo M. This bullseye sign is commonly used for the centre of towns, so keep an eye out for it.

This is the sign you will see on the approach to a motorway toll station. Alt means Halt. It is 1km away. Notice that Italian motorway signs are in green (as opposed to blue as in the UK and most of Europe). So if you are looking to get on a motorway, look out for the green signs. Motorways are usually prefixed with A for Autostrada in contrast to M for Motorway as in the UK.
